The Minsky Moment

Matt Gaetz is supporting Loeffler's opponent, which is argues against the hypothesis of her being Trumpier, since Gaetz is Trumpier than Trump.

Everything that I've read says that it's a pretty highly partisan race, because the democratic candidate (Warnock) has the democratic vote locked up, and the two republicans are fighting for the Trump vote.  Loeffler seems to be the Trumpier of the two (she wants sanctions on China for giving the coronavirus to Trump).  Luckily, it looks like she is headed for third place.

Here is something new for you to read then: 538 has her the favorite, with a 44 chances in 100 of getting the seat.

In the September polls on 538, she is in first place in 4 of them (a tie in one), in second place in 1, and in third place in 2.

The seat came open and she got appointed with Trump's support (theoretically because he thought a woman would be better for the party). Collins, who was seen as more conservative, was upset and jumped in the race. Loeffler has tried to out-Trump everyone in history to avoid letting Collins position himself to her right, so you have this bizarre situation where two contenders for a Senate seat are running ultra conservative campaigns as the "true" trump candidate while Biden is actually polling ahead in some surveys in the state.
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

I'm embarrassed. I've been making the mistake of associating with you. It won't happen again. :)

Gaetz is supporting his fellow congressman.  No surprise there.   Loeffler is, of course, a political neophyte and so i won't die on the hill of her being Trumpier than Collins (whose pretty much a loon himself, as we witnessed during the House impeachment proceedings.  She certainly is disguising herself well as a Trumpeter if she isn't one.  She pretty much quotes either Trump, or the Bible.

Presumably she has staff running the social media accounts.
It doesn't detract from sheilbh's point though  - it enhances it.   The fact that an otherwise somewhat normal person has to do this to attract party support is damning for the state of the party.

I disagree. This is a nonpartisan race. It is damning for the state of the electorate, not the party.

Isn't she the piece of human garbage that used intel to make money off of Covid? You guys sure know how to pick winners down there.

Ianucci is a genius

Check out Veep, which he directed (and wrote?) if you get the chance.  I was turned off at first because our own Martinus was plugging it, but it has a lot of laughs in it.

She pretty much quotes either Trump, or the Bible.

So she contradicts herself.

I loved how Ianucci used accents in the movie.
Ianucci is a genius - strongly recommend his adaptation of David Copperfield with Dev Patel. It's very good.
One thing I wish they did differently was Beria's downfall.  The way it actually happened would've been more impactful than how they portrayed it in the movie.  In real life the rest of the gang coldly dispatched him, and Beria went to his execution a broken pleading mess of a man.  That would've been a good demonstration of how anyone's fortunes can suddenly and comprehensively change in that kind of a regime.  In the movie Beria still looks like an alpha male even as he's executed.

I don't think you remember the movie properly, he's a whimpering mess right before being executed, and before that he was a despised man lashing out against everyone but absolutely powerless. And that "alpha male" comment is cringey af.

I just watched the movie again an hour ago.  And WTF, did "alpha male" just become a taboo word among the woke?

Apparently KellyAnne Conway hid that she was Covid positive to her family and actually infected her daughter, the one who is trying to get emancipated from them.

And I watched the final scene right before writing my post and stand by my own assessment. And "alpha male" is an absolutely empty and baseless term.

And the original research it comes from (on behaviour of wolf packs) was discredited by its own authors after further research and the misunderstandings it was causing but the terms continue to be used as if they meant anything.
