You don't like nationalism as a general principle, you're not alone in this, lots of people equate nationalism with national-socialism.  Quite often, the same people that get angry when we equate socialism to national- socialism... But I digress

I understand your position, I disagree with your generalization that nationalism is inherently bad. But again, I was teasing you, mocking your position by overtly exagerating it, not trying to seriously characterize it.

If you ever get the chance, the Louisbourg fortress site is extremely interesting to visit, english&french guided tours, though I'd advise a little bit of French knowledge to make the experience more immersive.

Quebec city is, however, a much more generalized and versatile touristic experience.  Louisbourg is extremely specialized, for the hardcore history fans, not much entertainment for kids, say.  Not that many hotels around either, and not much to see beyond the Fortress' site (take a day to visit).

But just because I don't like the concept of group rights trumping individual rights and identities based around these national tales of repression doesn't mean I want everybody to be identical.

That's often the basis of nationalism: rejecting the calls to uniformity.

But that's my point.  I don't think nationalism is a bad thing (at least partly because I don't think that globalism or internationalism are realistic alternatives--the alternative most people would turn to would be tribalism IMO), so my primary political loyalty is to the US, not to Ireland or Irish culture.

But that's my point.  I don't think nationalism is a bad thing (at least partly because I don't think that globalism or internationalism are realistic alternatives--the alternative most people would turn to would be tribalism IMO), so my primary political loyalty is to the US, not to Ireland or Irish culture.
