Shameful that no UK politician today stood up to Trump and corrected him.  <_<

I never get the western obsession with clothing and dress codes when it comes eating.  The Chinese world is a lot more casual in this regard.  The focus should be food, not ties.

Don't think I've ever eaten anywhere with a dress code beyond "no shoes, no shirt, no service".

Did you see a lot of dinner jackets and gowns during your college days mono?

We had a company Christmas dinner at a restaurant a couple years ago where they refused to let in people wearing jeans. But that was the only time I've been to such a fancy place. :P

When I go to restaurants, it is quite obvious that westerners are usually much better dressed than Chinese.  It almost seems that westerners go to formal restaurants only to celebrate certain occasions, whereas Chinese just consider going to good restaurants as part of the family routine.

Western restaurants also tend to have much stricter dress codes.  I have seen fine-dining places that send guests away for wearing jeans, shoes that show the toes (yes, even female ones), shorts, etc.  Chinese restaurants tend to be far less formal.  As long as you don't dress in outrageous ways, you'll be fine.

In New York we chanced upon a fairly fancy Mexican restaurant (yes). We were in roughly the 5th day of our trip, tired and dressed extremely casually, as you'd when you are planning constant deathmarches.  I am not saying everyone wore suits and dresses there but we were seriously underdressing the average. But the waiters were cool about it, we were let to queue for an empty table, and then our waiter was only bearably snobby about having to serve us. Which he sounded like he regretted once he saw that I was paying in cash with a healthy tip.

Also, TIME magazines with photoshopped covers.

And the presidential porn stash hidden behind a state portrait of Ivanka.

Not sure what he said this time, but it is better to let the insane rant rather than to correct or argue with them.

I'm embarrassed. I've been making the mistake of associating with you. It won't happen again. :)

Well, yeah, d'oh.  I would think anyone as tight with money as you would understand not paying for an expensive meal except on certain occasions.  The vast majority of us very rarely eat at a fancy place, and we don't worry much about how we're dressed otherwise.

I heard the President gave the Queen an iPod filled with his speeches   What a boob.
