The most significant input in aluminum production is electricity.  The cheaper the energy cost, the greater the competitive advantage.

When a country (USA) is losing many billions of dollars on trade with virtually every country it does business with, trade wars are good, and easy to win. Example, when we are down $100 billion with a certain country and they get cute, don't trade anymore-we win big. It's easy!

You know if the US wants to export more things maybe it should make exporting more things easier. Maybe start by relaxing ITAR rules?

One of the unintended consequences of the new tariffs is at the Canadian share of the US market will likely increase as Canadian products will become even more price competitive versus their international competitors

Ya, but again, he's likely just playing people off vrs eachother to ensure their loyalty to him. Typical of this kind of royal court.

I think we habitually overestimate Trump's shrewdness, and underestimate the number of people impressed with Trump's shrewdness.
