Quote from: Admiral Yi on February 17, 2017, 10:28:24 AMI don't see the basis for this statement.

you're going to have to clarify. do you mean, "it's not wild, it seems deserved" or do you mean "it doesn't seem like he gets shit on quite a bit"

Absolute, shit, wild, any of those.

look at the immature "rogue" accounts that have hundreds of thousands (millions at this point?) of viewers. they spend their time attacking trump.

look at the comparisons to nazism. look at the suggestions of authoritarianism. look at the whole term "post-truth" that gets flaunted. at someone who searches "trump" in google news every day, there's a ton of articles every single day, and they almost all attack him. look at all the criticizing of his actions over things like the whitehouse website taking down civil rights section, even though that's been done by other presidents. look at the gold drape criticism. look at how few officials he had cleared by inauguration, despite that being the case for every recent modern president.

every tiny thing trump does is scrutinized to such an insane degree by the media and social media. it creates a vacuum of negativity in which people only see negativity.

example: trump says many things in an eighty-minute press conference, and little exaggerated comments he makes get latched onto and turned into In-Depth articles by NYT, etc. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/16/us/politics/trump-news-conference.html.

let's look at that article, a three-second skim shows-
QuoteFor a president who has already lost a court battle, fired an acting attorney general and a national security adviser, and lost a cabinet nomination fight, Mr. Trump was eager to demonstrate that he was still in command.

the way the article is written, it's just another criticism over things that he likely doesn't care about. he cares about the media and how he's presented. and right now he's absolutely right that he's getting unfairly attacked.

Glossing over how he asks the reporter to set up the meeting because, you know, he's black () I love how he seamlessly goes from not knowing what the Black Caucus is to saying they're great.

Reminded me how his "Hungary is great!" comment to the Hungarian PM over the phone made the right there jizz all over themselves for almost a week

It is not that controversial to suggest that there is too much zeal in the anti-Trump sentiments:

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/21/opinion/sunday/the-tempting-of-the-media.html

"The danger for the established press, then, is the same danger facing other institutions in our republic: that while believing themselves to be nobly resisting Trump, they end up imitating him. Such imitation will inspire reader loyalty and passion — up to a point. But beyond that point it's more likely to polarize than to persuade, which means it often does a demagogue's work for him. Fellow journalists, don't do it."

Come writers and critics who prophesize with your pen, and keep your eyes wide the chance won't come again; but don't speak too soon for the wheel's still in spin, and there's no telling who that it's naming. For the loser now will be later to win, cause the times they are a-changin'. -- B Dylan

it's tough to make any ground because people have this ingrained notion of who trump is that they can't see beyond it. everything trump does feeds into this view. for some, it's gotten to the point that trump can literally do nothing right. like white racists and how they view black people. there's always some excuse to turn a positive action into something negative, or deliberately/subconsciously ignoring the positive.

Why is the attack unfair?

Nothing positive is happening. Why wouldn't you attack the man in charge/responsible for that situation?

He stood up in a press conference and lied. Everyone knew he was lying, and when called on it, he blamed others, and then attacked the press.

People have a notion about who he is because he does stuff like get up and lie over and over and over again. They would be stupid to NOT have an ingrained notion about who he is - he created that notion himself, and he reinforces it every time he opens his mouth.

yeah, we all know trump's style. the media seems report trump's style every day as if it's the first time trump has ever done it. this adds more fuel to the fire, with constant articles bashing him for the style that everyone knows by this point. this isn't news--it's gratuitous. report things that are actually newsworthy, not more shitshow articles that are almost about as informative as "OMG trump!!"

Berkut

The POTUS standing up in a press conference and lying to the American people is news. It is news the first time, the second time, and the nth time.

It is not a "style". It is fucking lying to the American people, amd it should be reported every single time it happens.

If you and Trump don't like it, stop doing it.

Well welcome to twitter. Making an immature account that spent all its time attacking Obama was how Trump rose to political prominence. It is a very destabilizing thing. It is how we get people like Trump in power and God knows what it might create in the future.

I didn't.  But I don't see how it's even relevant what's on social media.
