kind and sensitive person as an insult only works if the target is himself insecure about his masculinity.  :hmm:

I think most people are just confused about it. Like me trying to insult somebody by saying 'Ye quadruple knave!'

Meh, I guess. That is generically true for any insult though, isn't it? If someone calls a woman a cunt, does she actually have to wonder if she is one to find it offensive, and more importantly, is the person using the term a douchebag regardless for doing so?

I don't think Jacob is insecure, for example, that doesn't mean you can't find someone trying to be insulting actually insulting, and it doesn't mean that you can't decide that there is a reasonable line for semi-civilized discourse that should be met.

We all call each other names on Languish all the time of course, so there is always going to be some sense that there is a some hypocrisy. The line is subjective, and drawn pretty far out at Languish. But I think the forum is better for there being a line...somewhere.

It is no coincidence that the same person keeps finding themselves on the wrong side of that line. marty sets out to try to actually be as offensive as possible.

Isn't the same true of calling someone a "faggot"?  :hmm:

I mean, if someone is actually gay it won't "work", and same with someone who is definitely hetero.

However, while it may not "work" the target understands the hostility behind it.

All true but on the other hand few posters here have as much accumulated subject matter of counter-trolling/lolcowing than our esteemed Polish homofaggot.  ^_^

Yeah, insults aren't about accuracy.  They are about conveying emotion frequently hostility.

It really does betray a rather horrifying level of immaturity on the part of the person using it and how they think about women.

Are you really horrified?

By people who use words like "kind and sensitive person" or "cunt" or "nigger" in attempts to be offensive? Yes.

Well, to the extent that one can be "horrified" by anything on Languish. It is probably an overly strong word in that particular context.

I read a tweet somewhere about feminists deciding to give up because of all the memes they have to face down. :D
