Properly done automated lorries could be good for hgv drivers. Will require quite a redesign in how things work though with far less end to end straight deliveries and rather more emphasis on local depots.
Should mean less nights away from home for the drivers. And hopefully less time fannying around unpaid waiting for customs to clear et al.

It'll work out as well for them as it did for the coal miners. Unless its different in the UK, the trucker money is on long haul freight. only have to load and unload at the city is annoying (traffic) and usually less money. Plus fewer hours overall.
Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".
Hubris must be punished. Severely.

I'm not sure there. I've heard the best money is with waitrose, oddly.
I know long haul wages are massively inflated in reality vs perception due to only being paid for driving time

Rather unsurprisingly, there are plenty of comparisons with The Omen in the comments.

Poor kid, never had a hope of becoming a decent human being did he?

It's certainly an argument for the "nature vs. nurture" debate.

It's important to remember that while he and us inhabit the same physical plane of existence, in terms of experiencing life and human society he is different species.

Absolutely furious about this animal sanctuary in Afghanistan. Apparently the PM has over-ruled the Defence Secretary and given clearance for the 200 animals and the assorted volunteers to be airlifted; from a Guardian reporter: "As one person who works for an MP said to me the other day: "We've had more emails demanding we save the Afghan dogs than emails demanding we save the Afghan people. It's very disconcerting.""

It's a shameful and morally indefensible decision. There's been a (successful) campaign to raise money to charter a plane. I did see one of the organisers noting that after they've rescued the animals there'd be space for 138 people - after the animals :ultra: <_<

Just nuke the country - at least it'll get Geronimo the alpaca and all these lunatics

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) is the world's oldest animal welfare charity. Founded in 1824.

The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) is a charity campaigning and working in child protection in the United Kingdom and the Channel Islands. Founded in 1884.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

I mean he still campaigns with his nanny.

But his dad was a journalist at the Times and Sunday Times and I think later editor. Plus you still learn R v Secretary of State (Rees-Mogg) at law school where his dad, William Rees-Mogg (I think by that point Lord Rees-Mogg), tried unsuccessfully to judicially review the UK agreeing to the Maastricht Treaty.

Interestingly in that case Rees-Mogg's barrister was the same QC who later went on to represent Gina Miller and to win the prorogation case

Last I read, there's about 1/3 foreigners living in Vienna; if you include naturalized persons, and children of people born abroad you get well over 50%.

I would - incidentally - note that she's American. But, I'd guess, not what she means by "foreign-born mothers".

Frankly its all been down hill since people started leaving their birth-village and routinely marrying people more distant than a second cousin.
