As a sign of the newfound national unity, Labour and the Tories are in unison over their attack on the BBC, which apparently both managed to be highly unfair to the PM and the Conservatives, while also contributing to Labour's defeat.

Yeah, insane.

I think this whole tribalism thing will get far worse before it gets better.

This is old stuff.

The Tories have always accused the BBC of being biased against them/threatened the licence fee certainly at least as far back as Thatcher.

Labour have normally focused on the (genuinely) biased print media but also have long standing issues with BBC reporting (again, at least since Blair) and reporters. It used to particularly be focused on Andrew Neil and Nick Robinson given their extra-curricular right wing leaning.

What seems new is the new media on the left whose business model probably kind of depends on delegitimising the BBC/old media (the Canary, Skwawkbox, Novara). Plus changing viewing habits - more people are consuming clips on their phones than an entire news programme. Because of both of those things it is easy for things to be taken out of context, or a genuine mistake to be snippets and shared millions of times.

What is also new is (as with MPs) the abuse female journalists get which is insanely out of proportion. Laura Kuenssberg is a particular victim of this.

Yes, a Quebec MNA (same as MP) recently read in the Assembly a sample of messages she has received. Just atrocious.

It's truly bizarre that Labour think the (anti-)Brexit Broadcasting Corporation is biased AGAINST them.

---------------

On a serious note before the election I only ever saw Kuenssberg on TV and she came across as pro-Europe and anti-Tory. So when I saw all the accusations against her of pro-Tory bias during the campaign I had a distinct feeling of having stepped through the mirror.

As Sheilbh said both parties have accused the BBC of being biased against them before. It feels a little more strident this time but not by very much.

But I thought there was no spoon???

Outstanding - proof that the BBC is still getting the job done.

It's problem tends to come from its desire to be impartial. Showing all sides of an argument even if one side is the world is round and the other is that it isn't.
With the election it wasn't so bad that I gather, Kuennsberg excepted, but on Brexit it needs to take a huge amount of the blame for its policy of false equivalence.
