One bright spot, Goldsmith loses Richmond (park?) to Lid Dems.   :bowler:

Corbyn staying on to oversee a "process of reflection" but will not lead Labour into the next election.

Corybn: I will not lead the party into any future election
Jeremy Corbyn says he will not lead his party into any future general election.

However, he says he will stay on while a period of "reflection" and discussion takes place

No shit.

I think someone in Labour needs to defenestrate him.

A Lib Dem gain from the SNP in Fife North East.

I must admit I didn't check all the seats in Scotland that the Exit Poll predicted so I don't know if it was rated a toss-up but I am both surprised and pleased by this result.

Grimsby went Tory. Wow.

Swinson's out by a very narrow margin.

Sadly for her it appears that much of the country shared my opinion; that the more you saw her in action the less you liked her as a leader and MP.

Good result for Lib Dems in St Albans, 6,000 Tory majority turned into 6.000 Lib Dem majority.

I actually think that was expected though; the last Yougov MRP predicted this result with a huge swing - as has happened.

Tory majority confirmed.

Time for a few hours sleep before I go to the hospital to see if my mother is being moved to Leicester today.

Well I guess we won't have Jo Swinson to kick around anymore.

A big night for nationalism and separatism of all stripes I guess.

This is really very scary stuff.
Even putting all joking and hyperbole aside. Things look rather dire for the future of the country.

North West Durham confirmed as having gone tory.
Its true this seat is more than just consett and stretches over a vast more farming oriented area. But still....a final sign that the working class is truly dead?
But what hope is there beyond this?
It's known that destruction is far easier than creation and no matter what comes of brexit overall these places are not set to be amongst the winners. I fear the cycle of despair and generational unemployment may have reached a point of absolute no return if things stay as they are.

One hope is mass movements to the cities/london and boundary reviews shifting more seats their way. As thoroughly impractical and unlikely as this is.
There's the metro mayor areas to consider too. If we could get more devolution down to these then maybe there is hope.... But the tories have shown they're not keen on this and see the metro mayor's as more a way to shift blame and cuts.

Another is the rather grim one that people just hurry up and die. There are too many older folk who just aren't made for the post truth world. In a decade or two maybe things will be better as demographics have shifted towards age groups who have grown up in this environment and can better deal with it. Again though this isn't happening overnight. We are talking years.

I suppose if we are lucky and in some local elections the tories also do well then we might be able to bash some logic into people's heads and stop them blaming the council for everything. Or at the least be blaming the right party when they do that. Alas I fear the tory misinformation machine will just find a new scapegoat then.

Rest in piece UK either way.
I'm really going to have to think hard about what to do with my life. There's no future here, but is it safe to stay much longer or do I risk becoming trapped.

What's the percentage vote for the parties? I can only find the number of MPs on bbc.

IIRC Tories got like 48% of the votes or something.

Which is now what some Remainers are desperately holding on to, claiming this proves people want a second referendum.

Which is of course delusionary. People want to forget the whole Brexit thing. Which is not what is going to happen, but still.

Can we please have Brexit now? I don't want Johnson stinking up the EU.
