"Have your cake and eat it"-ism has been a staple of opposition parties since forever.

Again it all comes back to the first theft of democracy, the av referendum.
If only that had been handled properly... Even if av had still lost,  if the lies of the antis had been properly cracked down on, then we wouldn't be in this shit.

Just have to keep my fingers crossed that talk of letting Brits pay to keep their citizenship comes to something.
Could help make up for the lost budget contributions that are talked of.
Getting a bit more out there but purely blue sky thinking theoretically wonder whether it could in some way  be extended to companies too :hmm:

 Desperation drives you too I see. Like Hammond and Davis hoping German business would give special rights to the London financial sector. As if they wouldn't rather make sure Frankfurt siphons away as much of London as humanly possible.

Otherwise, selling EU citizenship is a lucrative business in many second-rate EU countries, but it's only for rich people.

Josquius

Letting individuals keep citizenship is something that has been mooted by relevant parties. Nothing practical seen yet though.

As in a normal human wouldn't pick to live to Frankfurt over London?

Pretty much, yes. But the interest groups already in Frankfurt are lobbying behind the scenes to improve their own position, of that I am quite sure of. And they might have more influence over German business circles than David Davis.

Josquius

Paris has been making huge moves in that direction too.

I really don't see Frankfurt being the one to take over.

The referendum didn't mean shit.  Parliament voted to leave the EU.  That's not "theft of democracy," that's WAD.

So what made the political parties, none of which (apart from UKIP) supported the Leave campaign, vote to leave?

Also, Tyr was talking about a different referendum.

I really don't see Frankfurt being the one to take over.

Citigroup, Nomura, UBS and Morgan Stanley have already decided to make Frankfurt their EU headquarters.  Goldman is having joint HQ in Frankfurt and Paris, and JPMorgan's investment bank will be based out of Frankfurt.  Deutsche is already there.  Bottom line is that for the big global banks, Frankfurt will be the dominant EU locale, it's already done.

I'm sure you're all watching star trek discovery right?
In this week's episode they find themselves in the evil racist mirror universe and have to pretend to be their mirror selves to fit in. They presume that mirror discovery is in the main St universe.
Well....
I think this might have happened for real

What's the second referendum supposed to be about? The negotiated deal? Surely that deal will be better than no deal.

Nobody knows, mate. Nobody knows ANYTHING about anything even remotely related to Brexit. That's what makes it such a jolly good show.

Unless no deal means no brexit.
