Note that every party from the centre right leftwards (except for one questionably legit minor far left group)  was for remain whlist everyone further to the right was for leave

Yes I know. Neo-Liberals are currently hated by the right.

Heh. I wish. The right is currently working hard to dismantle everything the neo-liberals accomplished. Well outside of people like Merkel but she is generally hated by many on the right.

I am curious: what are the actual arguments to support the "ony rich people will be hurt" stance? I mean, apart from "well it takes more than 5 words to understand the implications so clearly this affects well off bastards, not me"?

Their City jobs are at risk, their cheap Polish remodeling work is at risk, and fewer people will want to buy their posh West End town house at inflated prices.

Precis me baby.

A journalist "sexed up" some comments from Princeton scholar Bernard Haykal, who then walked back and partially repudiated the piece.

I guess it's a class thing. All the Brits I hang out with on a professional basis (whether lawyers, big four consultants etc.) are completely horrified by the Brexit vote and think it is a big deal.
But all of them are working with a Polish colleague so are probably more exposed to Brexit issues. Almost all the professionals I hang out with and know were horrified, think there'll be a negative effect especially in the short-term but aren't that concerned about the economic impact. Most take the line that actually the UK economy is pretty well able to deal with this sort of shock and is resilient and think there are opportunities for the City in particular. I know almost no-one who is reporting any impact from Brexit though lots of people have had to do client hand-holding/had their hands held

One exception works in the art industry and my understanding is they will be fucked with Brexit.

I do hope the confidence in the economy is well-founded. The UK practically begged itself into the precursor of the EU because they had it so shitty compared to the members at the time. Post-Empire UK economy outside of EU did not seem anything to be excited about

It was quite heavily socialised pre-EEC days. So it was unproductive but, at the same time, getting the basics was much easier than today. In some ways it was preferable to what is on offer today.

Yes. That's the appeal to many people. The days when you wanted work, you could just walk into a factory and be given a job on the spot. Frank Spencer style.
They are unable to get it through their skulls that the eu isnt the problem there.

Apparently some Remainers actually have started emigrating. Big destination so far: New Zealand. Which makes no sense.

Obviously a wonderful place, but I do sort of wonder if that's symptomatic of our relationship to Europe that even the most pro-European of us will literally travel to the other side of the world rather than learn another language  :(

But surely one of the big problems of leaving is we won't be able to move to Europe. Emigrating to Europe when your status there in.a few years is hazy doesn't seem so bright

Loads of countries are talking about getting UK people passports if they already live there. Additionally this isn't hazy it'll be the easy bit, guaranteeing residence for people already in Europe/UK.

Is this basically the British politics thread?

Apparently everyone's favourite Labour leader had a video of him sitting on the floor because the train he was on was so crowded.  In it he rails about needing to renationalize the railways.

Well they pulled the CCTV footage from the train, which not only showed Corbyn walking past several empty seats on his way to filming his video sitting on the floor, but that afterwards he goes and takes a seat!

Posts here are my own private opinions.  I do not speak for my employer.

Valmy

Only the reddest of dirty godless commies would nationalize the railways!

Oh right

But that is pretty sad by Corbyn. At least he could have found a truly crowded train around rush hour in London or something.
