Some Tories are flirting with the idea of proroguing parliament before they have a new leader. That way they can get to avoid the new PM being thrown out of office on a no-confidence vote and also get brexit by default. This profoundly dictatorial idea is being resisted by others. The Queen may have to step up.

Seems less like the 1930s and the rise of authoritarianism, more like the 1630s; So did Rees-Mogg have a hand in this?  :bowler:

Are you suggesting the Queen should raise the Royal Standard at Nottingham and march on Parliament?

No just imprison Rees-Mogg in the white tower, have a high treason trial and either exile or behead him on the block at tower hill.

I think half of him would secretly approve.  :bowler:

I think we should condemn Ress-Mogg via an act of attainder, it is what he would want  :bowler:

Good one.

Maybe a spot of tactical voting to ensure that the Brexit party was kept out?

Well they are certainly on a road to nowhere.

And only 31% of the vote.  BP plus the Conservatives had over 50.

Yeah as opposed to the reality that his followers just moved from UKIP to Brexit Party.

Peterborough was 60.9% leave in the referendum btw.

Checking up UKIP didn't run in 2017 for some reason. But in 2015 they got 7,485.
So they've rose from 7,485 to 9,801 (+400).
Which....yeah, its a rise. But lets get some perspective.

Considering in 2015 this was a Labour seat and the circumstances around which we had this bielection too....Very well done by Labour I'd say.

The main learning from this is the Conservative collapse. Since Brexit it has gone from a 10 year Tory hold to somewhere they're running in 3rd.

Two threads and about five posts (reading) apart and I see a second "oops" by a British poster; it feeks like the malaise of the England men's football team is spreading.  :(

Ah, I didn't mean the amount of increase there, the +400 is the number who voted for UKIP-classic.
