She is just sort of saying things. None of it is connected to reality.

Quote from: Jacob on November 06, 2025, 12:53:25 PMDoes the mayor of NYC have the power to bust trusts? Because IMO the US could really use some trust-busting right about now, but I wouldn't expect it to come from the civic government of NYC.

It is one of the problems we are facing in Austin, Texas. With the Federal government and State governments increasingly not just going asleep at the wheel but actively making things worse, responsibility increasingly falls on local governments. And they lack both the resources and the legal mechanisms.

So destruction of the national economy and dismantling of social services lead to tons of social problems in population centers. And then the mayor gets blamed.

All part of the plan.

Powerful stuff.
I don't understand a word of it though.

There's a translation below :P

One person laments the loss of democracy after the AfD took hold of the power, the other still wants to give them a chance.
Similar to the US with GOP, where Republicans lament the loss of their benefits but don't hold Trump or the GOP responsible

Polls say the opposite. So do election results.

Newsweek poll says only 2% drop, not 4.  :(

These are minor elections where Dems showed up to vote, for a change.

Did the GOP voters switch sides in these elections or did the Dem turnout just go up?

Those were elections in in multiple states in which large numbers of people who voted Trump voted Democratic.

Did the GOP voters switch sides in these elections or did the Dem turnout just go up?

According to the NYT,
QuoteWhile it's always challenging to nail down the details of an electoral shift, the available data generally suggests that Democratic gains were driven slightly more by flipping Mr. Trump's supporters than by benefiting from a superior turnout, at least for Abigail Spanberger in Virginia and Mikie Sherrill in New Jersey.

Together, the combination of a more Democratic electorate and success among those swing voters was enough to turn light blue Virginia and New Jersey into Democratic romps. It was also enough to allow Democrats to reverse last year's losses among Hispanic voters, as many of Mr. Trump's new Hispanic supporters from 2024 stayed home and many others returned to the Democrats.
and (same article)
QuoteThe same story holds among Hispanic voters, who snapped back toward Democrats in both states. The exit polls in New Jersey found that Ms. Sherrill won a whopping 18 percent of Mr. Trump's Hispanic support in the state (no figures were reported for Virginia, where the Hispanic vote is smaller).

It's a bright spot.

Next time it's the mid terms. I guess the question then will be twofold:

  • Will the anti-Trump voters show up? (I expect yes)
  • How much will the Trump administration put their thumb on the scale and subvert democracy (more of an open question as far as I'm concerned).
