You get invaded a lot and I guess you need to learn more languages.

Luxemburgers are special indeed.  Their median number of languages spoken is greater than the mean number of languages spoken.  :hmm:

Let's say there are 5 people in Lux, speaking 5,5,4,1,1 languages
Median is 4
Mean is 3.2
Basically it could happen if few people speak >5 but there is a bunch of people at 1.

I'm not saying it's impossible, the median can be to the either side fo the mean, but it means that they skew differently from the rest (actually, Greeks have that as well, I guess financial powerhouse nations are special).

Here is a hunch...locals can generally speak French, German, English, and Luxembourgish. Except for English they are all practically mandatory to live there (also granting that Luxembourgish is a made up language that is really a dialect of German).

Like everywhere else, there are probably a number of people that are monolingual or bilingual (say if I moved there, I'd be fine just speaking English and ignoring their barbarian tongues).
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

I'm embarrassed. I've been making the mistake of associating with you. It won't happen again. :)

I'm curious what level of language competence is implied.

One of these days The Netherlands and Scandinavian countries are just going to declare English as their primary language.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Or, you know, banking and stuff.

So Ryanair has announced it'll open 13 routes from Copenhagen, if this means we can now also get tickets to London for £15 like the Jutes can I'll be happy, but like everything else in Copenhagen it'll probably be more expensive.

A £15 plane ticket is nice but there is the problem of being in london at the end of it

I'll always prefer SAS or alternatively Norwegian, but it'll provide some competition.

I took them once and never again. EasyJet seems like the lap of luxury compared to RyanAir.
