My company has a new rule that you can add to Outlook that will delete all e-mails you receive while you are on vacation and will inform the sender accordingly. This is meant to reduce stress for employees. Other big companies have configured their mail servers so that you don't receive any mails between say 8 pm and 6 am anymore.

Can you refrain from checking your email while not at work?

There are some interesting cases recently in which checking email outside of normal work hours is considered working overtime and some employers have been required to pay the employees for that work.

I suspect that the policies Zanza is talking about is at least partly motivated by employers wishing to avoid claims for overtime and extra holiday pay.

That's a very unclear situation under German employment law. BMW recently decided to give people overtime for answering mails/calls outside their normal working time. I also sometimes log overtime when I have a call later in the evening, e.g. with North America, when I am already home.

CNN just aired parts of Charles Barkley interviewing Obama.  At one point Obama talked about some charitable deal he's trying to set up that would encourage black success, and he mentioned visiting factories "where machinists make $35 to $40 an hour."  Where are these jobs?

I love the hell out of the bread basket but he was an awful interviewer.  Just read his questions of a sheet of paper, looking the whole time like he was going to crap his pants.

My father has this annoying ass habit of putting shit in my chairs when he wants me to put stuff away.  Gloves and hat left in the kitchen too long?  In my kitchen chair.  A box full of CDs that's been around too long?  In my computer chair.  It's annoying as shit, but I simply remove them and put them aside.

Same back and forth battle we've been doing since I was 12, a war of wills.   A war with no battles, no monuments.  Only casualties.

Obama must've been referring to Europe or Canada or perhaps Nippon-koku, or any number of modern nations that don't purposefully suppress wages to increase shareholder value and CEO compensation.

Actually, I dunno, machining is a pretty seriously skilled trade.
