I just read that dudes wikipedia page.  They should have let the crowd tear him apart.

Sick bitch
QuoteBy the time of the trial, Ramirez had fans who were writing him letters and paying him visits.[26] Beginning in 1985, freelance magazine editor Doreen Lioy[27] wrote him nearly 75 letters during his incarceration.[28] In 1988 he proposed to her, and on October 3, 1996, they were married in California's San Quentin State Prison.[29] Before Ramirez's death, Lioy stated that she would commit suicide when Ramirez was executed.[30] By some estimates, he would have been in his early seventies before his execution was carried out, due to the lengthy California appeals process.[31

Yeah man...I'm sure the rest of the Languishites growing up in the '80s and older remember that motherfucker. That was one hell of a serial killer media storm.
For me, a bit older than the 80s folks, it was the Zodiac.

I vaguely remember the trial, or at least he's familiar to me after looking at some GIS results (especially the photo of him holding up his hand with the pentagram on it), but I don't remember when he was actually running around being a fucking psycho.

The Italian embassy has delivered a note of protest to the Austrian government.

Apparently there is (or rather: was) an Italian restaurant in the 7th District that gave its dishes the names of Mafia and Cosa Nostra people, as well as names of people who fought them, like Giovanni Falcone.

The Italians are not amused, saying it's an insult to anti-Mafia activists and victims of organized crime.

For some reason, of all the PG Porn episodes, this one slipped me by:

Sure.  I'd rather be at my house getting waited on by my slaves than doing my job, too.

I imagine the point of quoting that bit is to suggest Washington didn't care too much for power or politics.

I'd say that it's more indicative that he was an introvert than anything else.

I think he may have been playing to the convention of the time that powerful men did not want power but instead took it as an obligation. Washington made a lot of comments along those lines, but then he ended up at the center of the fray quite a bit in his life. The same thing happens when every pope says he really didn't want to be pope.

What I learned today: the diacritic in preëminence is not a typo. And is apparently called diaeresis.

It is what you get when you don't use a "-" in the word.
Apparently the thought is that it would be made into a dipthong rather than a dual vowel sound.

When used with a word like that, it is a sign of being snooty.

  It has a perfectly good linguistic reason to be there!
