I'll tell you, I enjoy me a good beet.

In any event, and I really do say this without  intending offense, a fully evolved late-stage capitalist, liberal, and highly technocratic country like the United States =/= highly populist-conservative quasi-republic with little experience in democracy, self-government, or consumer-directed economics like Hungary.

Not only we have been using the system you advocate for more than 50 years now, the vast majority of the population thinks exactly like you do and votes accordingly. This is your promised land.

I edited too slow.  The U.S. is a self-built liberal democratic world power.  It can advance slowly into the phase of direct control of the core necessities of the economy by the people through its elected representatives and an accountable bureaucracy (which would absorb the massive technical expertise present and currently exploited by our non-productive owning class)--something Hungary has historically lacked, rather being run by fascists, then a new class kleptocracy beholden to foreigners, and, now, increasingly, fascists again.

It will have to.  Our choice is between a managed and happy nation and social destruction.

I imagine an all-beet diet is good for the ass.

the "managed nation" has been proved as a bad idea over, and over, and over again. Even not full communist countries have troubles.

And I know the "we are not XY peoples, we are more advanced, we could do it" argument, and it's BS. Human nature is human nature regardless of how accustomed it is to Cafe Latte

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.

I suppose we could drop your ass in Compton if you like.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

So, just because some small parts of the US suck ass, that means the nation overall is worse than HUngary?

I am saying that the system and society Ide thinks as ideal exists, and I happen to live in it.

How this connects to the US having shitty parts is beyond me.

Dirty rat bastards.

For years, my credit union's been awarding Rewards points for check card transactions, you know the kind where you can redeem them for fabulous gifts and prizes.
I've banked something like 70,000 points over the years, enough for Apple products, for fuck's sake;  now, effective May 31st they're ending it for check card holders, and you'll only accrue points if you have a Platinum Visa credit card.

Fucking bankers.  Like label makers and digital cameras are setting them back that much.

I blame Yi.  They're his people.
