Especially for something that is completely useless.

Fortunately, it tells time quite accurately so that wouldn't apply.

Everyone carries a phone these days.

As Neil says, watches have become jewelry. I have nothing against it, but it's not something I would spend a lot of money unless there was a significant ROI (promotions, contracts, etc).
Do you tape your phone to your wrist?
It's not like taking your phone out of your pocket the check the time is an inordinate amount of time and effort.
Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".
Hubris must be punished. Severely.

It takes way more effort than flicking your wrist.  Maybe I'm just so used to getting my time instantly just by glancing down and to the left, that I find any other method to be unacceptable.  I know that when I forget to put my watch on in the morning, I'm feeling a little off.

The Larch

Just came back from a party weekend to celebrate the wedding and future parenthood of one of my best friends. My left big toe turned purple yesterday after taking a hit while swimming. Not quite Hungoverish but it'll have to do.

I already use the thing enough as it is, as does everyone else, which you really notice when you glance around and see nearly everyone in sight poking at their smartphone.  It can stay in my pocket if I just need to know what time it is.  And unless it's already in my hand, it isn't remotely as fast as looking at a watch.

I don't know.  I'm kind of in transition right now.  I used to wear my nice wristwatch everywhere, but now more and more I'm only wearing it at work.  Around town I just use my phone.
I do not hate you, nor do I love you, but you are made out of atoms which I can use for something else.

I used to have a beautiful watch, then it got nicked after some builders left the front door open. And now I can't afford a replacement :weep:

Well most decent people tend to wear socks with shoes...though sounds like you might take it too far and wear socks with sandals!

Wrong!

I would never wear sandals.

Based on my twitter feed/pub response Britain hasn't changed. We put our negativity on hold for two weeks and now it's relentlessly flooding back

To be fair a bunch of has-been pop stars isn't the best advert for this country; come on what do the Spice Girls say about anything other than B-list celebs in need of publicity ?
