I didn't know you didn't read their FAQ.   You can't fund your account with a credit card from US.  It's not illegal, just impossible.

How about I stipulate that you are wicked crazy clever and you just tell me what the fuck you're talking about.

Ok, I'll simplify it.  You can't use credit card to fund their account if you live in US.  Intrade won't accept it, and US banks won't allow it.

Did Fredo break the law in 08 or has the law changed?

As I mentioned before, I had to wire them the money.  :P

I'm hazy on this because it was four years ago, but I think it took 2 weeks to show up. And then for some reason to cash out they had to mail me a check.
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

I'm embarrassed. I've been making the mistake of associating with you. It won't happen again. :)

The law doesn't apply to people, it applies to financial institutions.

Like the bank Fredo used to wire money?

:hmm:  That's a good question.  There are varying levels of difficulty depending on the method, but credit card is definitely the most difficult by far.  In any case, if you read the previously mentioned FAQ, Intrade references June 2010 as the time the restrictions were put in force.  However, most banks stopped letting you gamble with credit card years before Feds mandated it.  The FAQ doesn't say anything about wires or checks from US, so I assume they're OK.

I have no idea, but isn't a merchant through a credit card identified with the type of transaction, whereas if I wire money the bank really doesn't know what the recepient funds will go towards?

We're talking ACH transfers right?  Those show up on my statement with a recipient.  And obviously checks show payee.

I don't think so, but we are talking about something from 4 years ago. I don't really remember.

Yi, in 2008 I put some money in Intrade, mostly betting against Ron Paul becoming the nominee.

Oh God, people bet money on that?

I could have been a fucking millionaire.  Do you know how much money they'll front you in student loans?  Christ.

I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011
