Does anyone here have any experience with CouchSurfing.org?

I'm on it but I haven't really done anything. A couple of friends of mine are really into it, and they've had quite good experiences.

Which are your plans?

Was planning on using it to meet locals when travelling Japan. I've a friend who has used it in the middle east and he said it was a nice way to meet different people, but that it should be used limited.

Well, I'm no expert, but for what I'm told you can't really expect much if you're a new user with no contacts or previous referals. You need to have a bit of a track record to expect better results.

I'm not expecting much, and I definitely won't count on it to find a night's sleep, but I do think it'll be fun to try.

Instagram is a good app, maybe even a great app. But a billion dollar app? Jesus H. Christ.

It has 30 millions user on iOS alone. That's 33$ a pop. Not too bad to own everyone's photo again.

I'd recommend you to start your account there ASAP and, if possible, get out a bit to make yourself known, maybe asking questions in their forums to plan the trip, and cross your fingers. Even if not for lodging, you can also hook up with locals to show you around, which is a great plus.

Yeah, I made my account a while back and they verified my address via postcard. I've yet to fill out all the profile yet, though. I hate describing myself. :shifty:

Welcome to Web 2.0 Fail.

I wonder if that market cap, beats the best performance of the whole old Polaroid corporation, of whose instant photos the app is trying to mimic ?

This fact is less fun then previously indicated.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011
