I was involved with something weird today.  Had to help shut down a failed bank.  It was a huge secret all the way up until the regulating agency walked into the lobby at 5:00pm and announced they were in possession of the bank.  Nearly all the deposit accounts were insured, but it will take at least a few days for people to get their checks-- until then, they won't have access to their money.  Shitty timing, with Christmas being a week away.

Thankfully I didn't have to go on-site, and did all my stuff remotely.

They won't be able to do anything.  I turned off their cards, disabled bill payment & shut down their ATM machines. 

FDIC should start cutting checks tomorrow to pay out the insured accounts, but the account-holders will have to make do with credit cards or accounts at other banks (lesson here is to diversify) until their checks arrive.
