Does Romania get any bonus points for speaking a Romance language, even if a bit slavified?
Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".

Cancelled out by their Eastern Orthodoxy.

crazy canuck

I had dinner tonight with a guy who knows a member of the Devil's Brigade. They live in the same small town in Ontario.   He was telling me some of the stories he heard about the training and their time in Italy. People were built tougher then.

In several surveys, the overwhelming first choice for what makes Canada unique is multiculturalism. This, in a world collapsing into stupid, impoverishing hatreds, is the distinctly Canadian national project.

In my experience they do not take kindly to be called Slav, and will without fail play the Latin card. Very Balkan behaviour.

I just learned that the Stamp Act only applied to the 13 colonies, which seems unfair.

It was to keep you guys from freeloading :P

Google AI said no. Ken Burns said it was noteworthy for applying to all 13 but didn't specifically mention Canada et al.

You sure, I just checked and Google ai says yes to me. As does wiki. West Indies affected too, apparently. Section in wiki doesn't mention Ontario specifically but does have a section titled " Quebec, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, and the Caribbean"

Google AI reply:

QuoteYes, the Stamp Act of 1765 legally applied to British North American colonies, including Canada and the West Indies, but its enforcement and public reaction differed significantly from the Thirteen Colonies, with Canadians largely complying or evading it rather than revolting, though protests occurred. While Nova Scotia mostly ignored it and Newfoundland petitioned against it, the intense, organized resistance seen in the American colonies (like the "Sons of Liberty") was much less severe in Canada, which was newer and less populous, leading to its quiet repeal without the major upheaval seen further south.

All the normal caveats about not proper research and the pitfalls that entails.

Also, I'm sad you didn't appreciate my freeloading joke :(

QuoteWhat countries were involved in the Stamp Act?
Stamp Act 1765
Territorial extent   Great Britain British America British West Indies

So this makes it look western hemisphere only.

I was curious why Ontario wasn't mentioned. So upper Canada was only separated from Quebec in 1791 as a place to settle American loyalists. I probably knew that at some point, since I do recall doing a whole thing on upper and lower Canada* in school.

*I distinctly remember being confused why "upper" Canada was below lower Canada

East India company didn't fail until mid 1800's right? Did they pay for their own military?
