In several surveys, the overwhelming first choice for what makes Canada unique is multiculturalism. This, in a world collapsing into stupid, impoverishing hatreds, is the distinctly Canadian national project.

The rats are eating the bait and I THINK they have started to slow down, hopefully as a sign of their impending demise. Once we get silence for a few days I will look to deal with the suspected way in to the house.

I may have come across the Most 'Waitrose' of Waitrose products:

QuoteNo.1 Balsamic Beetroot & Walnut Vegan Tarts

at a bargin price too:
Over-priced Pretentious Confection.

I like beets and I like walnuts, but that sounds disgusting

Admiral Yi

I hate beets and walnuts and that looks very pretty.

Jacob

With this kind of thing I don't really care if it's pretentious or not, merely whether it tastes good.

I'm positive on beets, positive on balsamic, and indifferent on walnuts. I'd be willing to try a bite and decide whether I'm in favour or against this particular product.

Sheilbh

Yeah I think it'd be tasty  I like beetroot, balsamic and walnut and can see how they work together (often in salad together) after all.

I also think for Waitrose that's admirably restrained and not that pretentious

Tamas, our tastes are too provincial.

How is the beetroot in that thing apprĂȘtĂ©?

I never had beetroot that wasn't marinated or in a scone.

In a scone?

From the description:
QuoteOur No. 1 Balsamic Beetroot & Walnut Tarts make a colourful and delicious festive main course. The crisp shortcrust pastry is filled with chunks of balsamic glazed beetroot and a creamy beetroot mix, topped with crunchy walnut and pumpkin seeds.

As I'm from Liverpool I absolutely love pickled beetroot (traditional accompaniment to scouse). But I think when I've prepared beetroot at home it's always been roasted.

I like my beetroot simple. Sliced thick and boiled. Goes great as a side to steak.
