They do work. Obviously the big advantage is in mountainous terrain, but even on flat ground I'm up to 0.5kph faster using them. It also eliminates sausage fingers, which is a nice bonus. The downside is the risk of tripping over them and falling down a mountain to an embarrassing death. And looking like a dork, at least outside proper hiking environments.

Yeah, Mrs. CC convinced me to give them a try and they help a lot if you are going over uneven terrain and if you are doing a hike over uneven steep terrain you really should be using them.

It's both more safe and you can go faster.

Thanks, I shall reconsider my gut instinct; though maybe it's just my reaction to having more stuff to carry or bother about.

I am going to have the radiator replaced on my aging Avensis but that's it, it's the last significant spend on it. I have convinced the wife to give a compact EV suv a try next year.

Will test if we can fit ourselves into a Hyundai Kona, but I have grave doubts about it. Do you know anyone who has one?

Grey Fox

Don't dismiss the Kia Niro, it's a little more family friendly  in its design.

I have a coworker with a electric Kona. Dude has 3 boys and it's his daily driver.
This being NA, he also owns a giant SUV for road trips and such.

Thanks, Kia Nero is deco the other candidate as it does seem to be bigger enough to make a difference. The Kona looks cooler though. Even in the 2021 generation we are aiming for.

I used to have a Kia Rondo as the family car(Niro's ancestor). Until the suspension started breaking regularly it was a great family car. Much cheaper on gas than a minivan.

Only bad side was that since that car was never sold in the USA, many services and parts were only available at great cost from Korea.

My piece of shit citroen is now out of warranty and the oil light won't go away.
A key push for emigrating is to get somewhere I don't need anything to do with cars. Just constant bother.

Crouch end?

Don't forget zermatt.

Alas a place where cars just don't exist is a far away dream. But just somewhere they're optional without massively inconveniencing yourself would be nice.

Guangzhou does look like it's viable without a car.
