I have no feel for Centigrade, and the actual conversion formula is just to much to run every time Beeb says "it's a balmy -15C today!"

So handy approximation formula.

2 times Centigrade + 30 ~Farenheit.

(Farenheit -30) / 2 ~ Centigrade.

  I'm shocked that you are just now finding this out.

I learned this about 10 years ago, but Max hated when I used it because it's not accurate. *rollseyes*
Yesterday, upon the stair,
I met a man who wasn't there
He wasn't there again today
I wish, I wish he'd go away...

Is this true?
That...actually makes a lot more sense than what I've read before about it just being a random time people smoked weed.

AFAIK, that's an urban legend.

High Times magazine popularized the use of it. Don't remember why.

It is not.

Quote420 is the penal code section for marijuana use in California. Nope. Section 420 of the California penal code refers to obstructing entry on public land. The penal codes of other states list different entries for 420, but none of them matches anything having to do with marijuana.
However, on 1 January 2004 the Governor of California signed that state's Senate Bill 420, which regulates marijuana used for medical purposes. This bill comes years after the term '420' was associated with marijuana and indeed its number likely was chosen because of the existing pop culture connection. This is the tail wagging the dog, not the other way around.

It's the Los Angeles or New York police radio code for marijuana smoking in progress. It's not the police radio code for anything, let alone that.

It is a time thing.  It was originally going to be "3:30" but they didn't get around to it for almost another hour.
I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma, a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it as though it had an underlying truth.

In the list I got from Pocket today there was an article entitled:  "There's a Name for the Blah You're Feeling; It's Called Languishing."

I knew it.

(If anyone cares the article is from The New York Times, but I think it pay walls you after a few articles.)
In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace—and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock

Saw my aunt on Sunday.
She gave me 50p for my kid. Apparently its a tradition you give kids silver when you meet them for the first time.
She says when her kids were born she took them for a walk and got quite a bit of money from people for this.
Now. I've never heard of this tradition at all.
Anyone?
Or is it super local?
