Don't know if we had a specific thread about the topic, but the Weinstein verdict has been given today, and he's been declared guilty of 2 out of the 5 various rape charges against him, and will now be looking at something between 5 and 30 years in jail.

Is anyone else tired of the media deification of Kobe Bryant?  Yeah, the guy was an amazing basketball player and you can honor him for that, but he was also an accused rapist who got out of the charge by paying off the alleged victim.  I don't think the media has to bring that up, necessarily, now that he's dead, but they don't need to be treating him as if he combined the best qualities of Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Gates, and John Paul II, either.

I tuned it out a long time ago.  A buddy of mine made the comment that he's the Michael Jordan for people from Southern California.  Entertainment types feel the need to engage in the public theater of mourning and remembering.  It's their thing and doesn't affect me.

I saw the rape thing as a hookup plus a shakedown so I've never thought of Kobe as a lowlife.

If the Kobe thing bothers you, just do what I did at work today while it played on the screen behind me: ignore it. Let the people mourn their heroes even if they're not yours.
The medievals were only too right in taking nolo episcopari as the best reason a man could give to others for making him a bishop. Give me a king whose chief interest in life is stamps, railways, or race-horses; and who has the power to sack his Vizier (or whatever you care to call him) if he does not like the cut of his trousers.

Government is an abstract noun meaning the art and process of governing and it should be an offence to write it with a capital G or so as to refer to people.

I've been trying to do that, but the problem has been that I haven't been able to watch any sports programming that it doesn't get brought up.

A thought. Not to say things shoukd be one way or the other but.
Have you noticed that disabled access is a legal requirement for many businesses. Increasingly you must be wheelchair accessible and cannot charge extra for the extra service despite it costing more.
Yet when it comes to diet related disabilities the legislation is spottier. There's a big push for saying what is in your food to stop allergy related deaths et al. But you can happily charge a large amount more for gluten free.

That makes sense.  Charging more for gluten free isn't fundamentally any different than charging more for an 8 oz steak than for a 6 oz steak--it's based on the marginal cost of the product being sold.  But the installation cost of a handicapped ramp or such isn't a marginal cost, it's a fixed cost.

EDIT:  and gluten free is a terrible example, since the vast majority of people who order gluten-free products don't do so out of any medical necessity.

I commend  your brave thinking Squeeze, and wish you best of luck in your noble quest to achieve justice.

Making facilities fully wheelchair accessible is one solution. A solution you more often see on trains for instance is arranging for station staff with a mobile ramp to meet the wheelchair user at the station.

And yeah. You'd probably need a doctors note or some such to verify you actually have a medical need to avoid gluten. I mention this example as its where I have most often seen the price difference and directly comparable products.

I very frequently see the same price for the gluten free and non gluten free versions.  Fish for example, or steak, or salad.

They do have tenured professors in South Korea, correct, it's just that you're not on a tenure track?  Or are there no tenured positions there?
They do have tenured professors, but not for foreign English instructors. There are definitely foreign professors with tenure, but they are PhD's who are doing research.
It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

Yeah. Saw the clip of him walking out in cuffs - which is nice.

He didn't seem to need his zimmer any more. So, you know, every cloud...

Is a prison suicide upcoming? Or he wasn't pimping actresses out to important people?
