I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.

Of course everyone becomes more conservative. We are selfish creatures. Both our ability to deal with a changing environment, and our remaining time (to benefit from changes) diminishes as we grow older. So we stop wanting radical change to the status quo.

There is also the notion of learning from experience, experience being one thing older people tend to have more of than younger people. The main lesson being that change can have unanticipated consequences, some of which are bad, leading to a more careful weighing of the consequences of change before undertaking it (this being the positive aspect of small-c 'conservatism').

Yes. I'd agree with this one.
Older people tend to have more to lose so become less radical and unwilling to overturn the standard order.
But I don't think this leads to left wingers becoming right wingers, more extremists of both stripes becoming moderates. The core beliefs remain intact.

Youtube seems to have really ramped up the ad toll you have to pay.

The mid video commercials are annoying as hell, it's almost like watching flow tv

Yeah, I never understood that. Wasn't it the other way around at first?

Didn't it use to alternate between elections on TV coverage but has stuck since Bush the Younger?

It used to alternate, yes, but I don't recall for certain when the new networks quit doing so.

FWIW, I don't think I've moved much to the left or right in my political opinions as I've aged, at least not so far.

When Paul Begala wrote an article about the Red State/Blue State divide.  In The Atlantic??  After Wubya's first win??

It was the 2000 election, when we saw electoral maps for months until the election was finally decided, that finalized the red=GOP / blue=Dem divide.

Also, it didn't use to strictly alternate.  There were some years when the networks repeated the previous election pattern, and years when networks went with different colors.

Susan Musgrave used to drive a car like that in Victoria, it had even more mini-figures, smurfs, etc. all over every inch of space on it.

Sure you might not have changed but the political landscape has. That is generally how people tend to drift, not because they changed their political stances much.

I don't know. I seem to recall the Democrats being blue in the 80s and 90s as well. I remember the map being painted red in the 1984 presidential election very vividly.
