Why is it so important to you which side of an arbitrary and imaginary divide Hitler is placed on?

So you can accuse the appropriate side of being fascists and/or Nazis.

Hmm... Maybe the revival in respect for the word socialist in the US plays a part?
They can't just call people socialists now and are too thick to call them stalinists so nazis it is.

If the last sentence were to be re-written from gibberish to English, what would it say?

If your point is premised on your first assumption being correct, you might want to reconsider your point.

I don't think Morissey is overly concerned with the way words are used in America.

So Denmark might just make medically unnecessary circumcisions on children illegal because no one wants to be the party who's soft on muslims and the law requires them to respond to a citizen proposal after it got 50,000 signatures. The Jews are threatening with an exodus to Israel but no one really seems to care.

Yay for driving religious idiots to have their children mutilated by unsanitary hacks instead!

In America socialist used to be a nasty word, it was akin to calling someone a nazi. Post-Bernie many now call themselves socialists. The international definition of the word is beginning to take hold. Thus socialist is no longer considered a slur on its own thus the loony right having to go further and try to draw nazi links.

Doesn't he live over there?

But don't underestimate the cross-fertilization between American and British idiots. The British far right use nothing but Americanisms these days.

Odd discovery of the week, a poster near my office proclaiming something about Sunderland- the biggest city in my home county and my favourite football team.
Which...is not something one expects to see...well anywhere, let alone in Switzerland.

It turns out...

Ah.  I wonder when anyone in America will realize any of this.  I suspect that you've been reading British "newspapers" again.  The "international definition of the word" (even if there was such a concept) is not "beginning to take hold" in the US, as far as an American can tell, and the people who "now call themselves socialists" are the same as the people who used to "call themselves socialists."  Those are the far leftists and the ignorant leftards.  I can't think of a single public figure that has come out of the closet and admitted that they are, indeed, a socialist.  What would claim the title of social democrat in France or Germany would call themselves a "progressive" in the US.

Which words are you having trouble with?  It's always hard to tell what words stump the non-native-speaker.  Is it "premise?"  Maybe "assumption?"
