It's moving that you want to protect Hitler's good name, but I don't think that calling him socialist can be considered a smear.

It's probably more logical to say that it's used by people trying to discredit socialism.  Or by people trying to provoke socialists.

Well, it looks like Manuel Valls running for Barcelona is for real. He's confirmed on Spanish TV that the liberal party (Ciudadanos) have offered him the spot. He's said he's pondering it.

Would be quite weird if he lost and a former Prime Minister of France got relegated to being a mere member of a city council. I assume he'd quit in that eventuality. I'd say it's 50/50 at this point, while Ciudadanos won Barcelona in the regional election, they don't have a good candidate for mayor. I guess it's really up to whether he could overcome the "I've really never lived here, you know" handicap.

He'd need to quit the French National Assembly in order to run, I assume?
