Siemens-Alstom merger just announced. :o

I didn't even have time to learn French.   :(

So crappy ICEs (since Siemens parted ways with Bombardier) are going to be a thing of the past?  :P

They were so crappy not even Denmark wanted to buy them. We do still rent them since the other crappy trains we bought in 2003 haven't arrived yet. :hmm:

How will this affect the CBTC rollout? Will we get some competent people now or will Siemens continue to shit all over us?

Siemens will continue to shit all over you, and Deutsche Bahn, unless you get TGVs.  :P

Apparently nickname in French is surname.
Oh the wonderful confusion that can be had

" so the visa application form says your name is.... Jean-Claude Terminator?.... "

Uh, no. It's surnom, i.e. an unofficial name, moniker, or pseudonym.

It is not the same as nom de famille which would be the last name or surname that you refer to.

Well this didn't take long.

Tim's second hockey game of the year is at 7:45am on Sunday.  And we have to be there by 7:15. <_<

It's a false cognate.

The reality though is that Jos's hypothetical wouldn't actually happen though as surnom wouldn't be on the form.

Surname/surnom.
Definite false friend and easy to imagine French speakers making this mistake.
Hell. I learned about this fact when a Swiss friend was telling me (in English) that this blonde girl they knew had the surname Barbie. I had to point out to them how odd that was before they thought about it and realised their mistake.

We live in a world of uncertainty.
In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace—and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock

A Spanish word for wife is "Esposa."  The word for handcuffs is "Esposas".

That's not an answer to the question I asked.

Do they commit penalties on purpose so they can take a 2 minute nap in the box?

We shall see...

Actually I'm not sure how the whole game is going to go anyways.  Timmy (and half of his team) just graduated from Timbits last year, where they play half-ice, 4 to a side, no positions, no penalties, no score being kept.  But now they move full-bore into full-ice, positions, referees and everything.  But with only a couple of practices, and those only focused on fundamentals.  Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me...
