That is a wonderful combination of stupidity and vileness. I mean this gas shortage is going to be very temporary so hoarding weeks worth of gas is a waste of money, all it does is fuck over lots of people for no reason.

As much as I've always idolized Churchill, I have to admit his time as Chancellor of Exchequer was not his finest hour.  Surprised nobody has pointed that out yet.

Re Churchill the other CofEs from that period were Snowden and Neville chamberlain, arguably even worse than Winston.  The job of the Chancellor then (as pretty much now) was to project an image of probity and sobreity and follow what the the civil servant "experts" said.  That was a bad line to follow at the time as austerity plus hard money fed into a deflationary depression.

Sobriety was never a Churchillian strong point and probity was iffy, he also couldn't be relied upon to follow orders from his inferiors like a good cabinet official.  That made him a seemingly bad choice for the office, and thus in actuality a potentially a good one for that moment..  Except for once in his life he allowed himslef to be intimidated by the experts, and after some dithering shut up and did what he was told on the gold standard.

Today was my annual Labor Day weekend cookout. Burgers, brats, hotdogs, potato salad, coleslaw and chips for my loyal vassals. And beer.

For dessert, banana pudding and for all the kids, brownies with ice cream.
