The Minsky Moment

That's cool.

But there's nothing wrong suing the bastards.  At least that's how I see it.

Well because lawyers are often like this:

Quote"This is a Russian warship. I propose you lay down arms and surrender to avoid bloodshed & unnecessary victims. Otherwise, you'll be bombed."

Zmiinyi defenders: "Russian warship, go fuck yourself."

Well, you are a lawyer.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Remember there are a lot of lawyers out there like JR and I who do pro bono work for that very reason.

I encourage you to take a look to see what resources are available to you at no cost.

Razgovory

Maybe I will.  My dad could have been part of a class action lawsuit over drug that gave him a heart attack, but didn't.  I felt he missed out on some money.

Raz I don't know the specifics of your case, but if the landlord failed to repair something serious, you could be entitled to a rent rebate.  Something you might be able to get even if you intend to leave anyways.

Savonarola

Today I saw a home for sale sign which listed the real estate agent as Ramira Casanova.  I thought that was a great last name for a realtor (would have been better for a home builder, of course.)
In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace—and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock

From Reddit. Apparently SNL recently used the street map of Vienna for a skit. :D

I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.

I don't do meditation.  I drink alcohol to relax, like normal people.

If Microsoft Excel decided to stop working overnight, the world would practically end.

The big boy has taken a liking to one of my oor Wullie books.
I always enjoyed it as one of the few examples of "normal" speech in book form, even if some words are very Scots specific.
He insists on this same story again and again....

Interesting perspective on the bronze age collapse, it wasn't because of some disaster or series of disasters. It was because people didn't have to trade far and wide to obtain tin and bronze anymore. Once people learned how to work with iron, they could obtain the metal in abundance locally.  Long distance trade was no longer necessary.

Maybe, but a new perspective about a switch from globalism to localism causing a catastrophe, emerging as the world is "perceived to be) doing that again? Sounds like the usual thing with history where we look at it and see our present.

Also, widespread destruction during the collapse has plenty of evidence I believe. I don't think collapse of long-distance trade could had caused a severe enough economic crisis in agrarian societies to make people burn down their own cities.

I like the theory of agricultural collapse (either climate or Salinization from irrigation) leading to populace overthrowing their elite and spreading outward in roaming bands.
Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".
