There's one I've been to the last 2 years. A place called Gibbside.

Way over priced for what it is... But the light displays are pretty nice there and I think my son sort of pays attention.

And its a national trust event so at least the money is going towards something decent.

It would be great for small kids if the Winter Wonderlands were actually any good of course.

When I was a kid the army used to put on something similar for us army brats. There would be Santa, soldiers dressed up as elves, the mess festooned with decorations, a big nosh-up and a present at the end. The army was good at it though and the experience as a small child was magical and wonderful

I'm not sure anyone with an IQ greater than 50 actually goes to them anymore. But like Sheilbh I greatly enjoy reading the articles about how awful they are; these articles have become a Christmas tradition in the past 10 or so years.

I would visit a winter wonderland, so that I could moan about it for weeks afterwards obvs, but I have this terrible fear that there would be a screwup and it would actually be quite good...which would ruin the whole experience 

I think it is very unlikely that a winter wonderland would ever be a good experience.

A Vienna hipster collective(?) has a collection of posters and t-shirts based on various (mostly small-ish) criminals from around the world and across history, plus general "justice fighters" (might be romanticized ... ). It's an eclectic collection ranging from pirates like Klaus Störtebeker and Widow Zheng to the likes of Julie D'Aubigny, Queen Nzinga of Ndongo, Emiliano Zapata (with a disclaimer that they generally don't want to include "big" names like him), to - very lovely - one with Ned Ludd/Cpt. Swing.

If they have such a terrible track record then yeah, but I could see some families with small kids from a small town where not much happenes to end up tricked by one of these things.

The thing is...

I've occasionally been dragged to sort of similar things - like a "pumpkin patch" (someone put a bunch of pumpkins on an empty lot or field, with a few cheap hallowe'en decorations around) - that are obviously completely garbage from any sane perspective. But the 3 to 6 tear old demographic do not have a sane perspective, and often enjoy them immensely notwithstanding the general consensus. And that, in turn, can be a sanity saver well worth seven quid per person and an afternoon for parents with young kids.

I don't get why ass would be censored anyway. People say that on network TV...or at least used to back when people watched network TV I don't know what is going on there now.
