Today marks the 40th anniversary of the repeal of the Spanish law of "social dangerousness" which imposed prison time for homosexuals. The law also forced them to go through "rehab", which was actually just forced prison labor. Public displays of homosexuality were still liable to get you a fine until 1988. Gay marriage was approved in 2005.

Several years ago I met a guy that had been put in jail in his 20s for being gay, and now was finally going to marry in his late 50s. Such a massive turnaround in half a lifetime...
