The big deal as I see it is that those characters are odd mangafied versions of the pilots themselves. Perhaps indicative of the sexism in japan

You sure about that? Those are pictures of the pilots?

pics of 12 year olds are more rare, but those pics of women aren't the same sort as these pics of anime girls. example--daffy duck, it's a cute image; the pilot doesn't want to fuck daffy duck

CountDeMoney

I'd have no problem mowing down godless PLA heathens in JSDF hardware, tricked out anime-style.

It would probably be even more insulting, kinda like the way a basecamping 12 year old TKs all your vehicles at the spawn.

Daffy Duck is portrayed in a combative posture.  Your better examples would have been the pants down guy or Dopey and Doc flipping a coin.

disagree. daffy duck isn't portrayed as a fierce warrior ready to KILL. he's portrayed as a cute character (who, as you noted, happens to be in a combative posture)

What are you disagreeing with?

I read your post as suggesting the pilots viewed the anime girls in a sexual way, like WW2 pilots may have viewed their women decals in a sexual way. my disagreement was with that implied suggestion, that these anime girls are more similar to decals like daffy, etc.

Razgovory

I think that some of us have problems with anime itself.  It's kinda creepy.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Apropos of nothing, there's a beaver living in my dad's pond again. My dad feeds the beaver poplar branches, so it will stay & repair the pond's dam. So far, it is working.

The beaver emerged out of the water while I was walking by the pond, saw me, and slapped the water hard with its tail when he submerged again. Startled the hell out of me.
Does your mom know your dad is having beaver on the side ;) :)

Tried to look it up and can't find anything reliable about it actually. Will have to check the japanese Internet when I have time.
I'm sure I remember hearing that though and the most famous photo is of a not very attractive pilot lady posing next to the chopper with an anime version of herself scribbled on it

I'm picturing the chopper attack scene in Apocalypse Now with those decals.

Not sure what the big deal is - it's not like cartoon characters and pictures of girls are some unheard of thing when it comes to military aircraft:

I wasn't saying that as a bad thing. It would be funny/awesome, I personally love those kind of novelty decals.

I also expect that all those helicopters will merge to form a robot with the girls piloting it from the head. Anything else would be disappointing.

So, there's been some riots in Barcelona these past days. There's a big squatter culture in town, with occasional clashes with the police when there's an eviction. It's been going for years. Last flare-up has been when the police evicted a group of squatters from an old bank branch that they occupied when it closed down because of the financial crisis a few years ago. It's been three days of riots in the neighborhood (I actually used to live 3 blocks off the place), with several wounded, property damage, etc... and a huge political fallout (we now have a far-left major who is seen as being soft on security).

Most surreal part of the affair? It's been discovered that the previous conservative major was paying up the rent for the squatters (they didn't know, thinking they were beating teh man all along), so the eviction didn't came due before the local election last year.
