I'm going to climb Mount Ranier outside Seattle--summit day is scheduled for June 30--a Tuesday.

After that, I'm not sure what to do. I want to be back home for the 4th of July, which leaves me 2 or 3 days to do something somewhere in area. Any ideas?

Depends on what your interests are (beyond hiking)?

For city stuff, downtown Seattle is worth checking out...Pike Place Market, Space Needle area, etc.

If it is more outdoors/hiking (if somehow Rainier doesn't poop you out) I can throw a ton of recommendations there as well.

For example, Mount St Helens to the rim of the crater would be pretty cool, and is supposed to be a non-technical climb.

I just got a permit to Mt St Helens. :)

It is limited to 100 a day, and they sell out well in advance, so I had to get it on the secondary market--but some dude sold me one for the face value. It is for the day after my summit bid on Rainier, so...I might be a bit tired. Should be awesome though.

Need to do a good weather anti raindance. A bad weather system moves it and it could take out both the Rainier and St Helens climbs.

I'm embarrassed. I've been making the mistake of associating with you. It won't happen again. :)

So if it rains in Washington, that could ruin your vacation?  :hmm:

Seattle is infamous for crappy weather on the 4th of July...here's hoping you beat it.  :)

And I expect an awesome AAR with pics.

Rain is no problem. Lightening is a problem. And at least for rainier, lots of snow is a problem, and high winds are a problem.

There is very little concern of too much snow in the Cascades this year.

Maybe people should just stick to commemorating the post count(just passed 50k) as it's consistent.  :hmm:
