Quote from: HVC on August 29, 2025, 03:44:59 AMStories with a hook always get more attention. Usually it's when a pretty person dies. Used to.be kids, but school shooting are such the norm now it's not the ratings draw it used to be. Hell if she'd been a midget or something it'd be a big story too (maybe bigger).

That's not to say the backlash won't be unfortunate.
No, an adult attacking a school usually gets big headlines.  This was the front page of CNN before it was known the shooter was Trans.
Same here, I saw stories of the shooting, and also of the mayor rubbishing "prayers", before I saw the stories about the shooter.  The identity of the shooter may be making it a more persistent story, but if you think this story made it to the news in the first place because of it, you're just confirming your biases.

I simply don't know why we cover these stories from the simple point that there is no political will to do anything to change it. Like yes, it is very sad but I am also completely numb to such sadness as we seem content to keep a system that ensures this cycle of violence.

I drank because I wanted to drown my sorrows, but now the damned things have learned to swim.

The softer ones do, the harder ones don't think he goes far enough.
We have, accordingly, always had plenty of excellent lawyers, though we often had to do without even tolerable administrators, and seen destined to endure the inconvenience of hereafter doing without any constructive statesmen at all.

Yeah I have to be honest I struggle after Sandy Hook. I can't believe that had so little impact.
Let's bomb Russia!

Same. After Sandy Hook, it's like america decided they're ok with dead kids.

The major impact of Sandy Hook I've seen is that about twice a year I get an ad from a sad, broken man urging action on gun control legislation.

That is just the beginning. America tolerates and celebrates widespread fraud and blames the victims for not being educated enough to explain the social devastation. If public schools just taught basic economics our economy could be overwhelmed with fraud and scams and nobody would fall for them ever. At least according to Americans.

We are a country of selfish psychopaths who glory in death and the suffering of others...so long as it isn't us.

Zmiinyi defenders: "Russian warship, go fuck yourself."

What a bright and glorious century we live in.

Two metres of solid rope, please? Anyone?

The Minsky Moment

Sandy Hook did have an impact. It made millions for Alex Jones  at least until the law caught up to him.
