Is there any good place to find costs of living in England (other than London)?

At anyrate, I don't think I plan to live here. Seems rather pricey / a bit quiet until I walk closer to Camden Town stop.

Yeah. Maybe try Kentish Town if you like the area? I think it's a bit cheaper and more lively.

Also avoid Camden Town.

One thought, if there's a small row of shops close at hand, ask and one of them will give you a 'defiinitve' answer as to what the area is called.

Oh I could do that. There is a small strip close by.

@Sheilbh - No worries there. Camden Town reminds me of a place I dislike in NYC (St. Marks Place).  I still need to really get my head around funds but I have been thinking something like Islington or Hackney.

Islington and Hackney are good areas :)

Camden Town was cool when you were a 14 year old from the provinces in London for the day

Luton is a pretty horrible place, like most of the dormitory towns just outside London.

What kind of area are you looking for in terms of a vibe?

Good question. I'm thinking enough happening in the neighbourhood that I don't feel like I need to constantly take long trips out (particularly in sense of restaurants/places to go out at night). At same time want to balance cost but also commute to work (near Bond Street tube stop).

That said I know I am not a super big fan of Camden Town nor Shoreditch vibes. I might stake a hipster in the latter.

Around Bethnal Green? Easy access to Bond Street on the Central Line. Marylebone/Baker St is a great area and walking distance to Bond Street but I guess too expensive (can't imagine you'd get much change from £400/week for a studio flat)

garbon

Yeah that is one are I have on list to check out (Bethnal Green). I agree with thought that Marylebone would leave me with a perpetual wish to make more money. :weep:

I would suggest then that you need to look south of the river somewhere in zone 2.

Brixton might suit you - there's a real community feel and lots of interesting bars and restaurants (admittedly because it is getting richer now, the chains are moving in).

Brixton is great. I lived there for 15 years and still have a lot of friends there. Loads of good pubs, bars and restaurants, a lovely art deco cinema, several clubs, a fantastic park and a major gig venue.

Another up and coming place that's relatively cheap is Camberwell. It also puts you close to Brixton and Peckham. I'm moving there on Friday (have bought a place, so now I read the Torygraph and vote UKIP), the only issue is that it wouldn't be the shortest possible commute to Bond Street.
