Razgovory

My Grandmother's maiden name was Hess.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Alonzo?

Was thinking of Oswald

Ok, he was a bit of a joke, but maybe he would have been our Quisling under different circumstances.

I'm wondering about Degrelle over here and Mussert in the Netherlands.

So what did the other members of the Hitler family have to do? Did everybody change their name to Schneider?

Some changed their name, and IIRC, most, if not all, his surviving relatives made a pact to let the bloodline die.

I think that's a myth, about the pact.

How common are other tainted names, like Himmler, Goebbels, etc.?

One of my teachers was called Göbbels. He was not amused when people used the 'oe' version or pronounced it in a German way.

I have to say I even cringed a little when I met a German called Heinrich

No love for Staf de Clercq and van de Wiele? :(
Degrelle's biggest victory!  :D

Come writers and critics who prophesize with your pen, and keep your eyes wide the chance won't come again; but don't speak too soon for the wheel's still in spin, and there's no telling who that it's naming. For the loser now will be later to win, cause the times they are a-changin'. -- B Dylan

A few hundred each in the German telephone book (which only has landlines, not mobile phones).

All of Germany in one book?
It's not a physical book, but a website. No scribes allowed!

According to Hitler he was the only useful Belgian so yeah.

I found the numbers for the Belgians
Degrelle 98 in 2008
De clercq 1 in 2008 (this variant is almost dead, surpinsingly  since de Clerk, Clerck and such are very common)
Van De Wielle 369 in 2008 (to be honest never heard of him)

Franco is not an unusual Spanish surname. I know a few and it's not a "GOD YOU ARE NAMED LIKE THE DICTATOR" shocker.

If they're named Francisco, though...

Now, Primo de Rivera, that's a different business.
