BB, you still thinking that the Latvia matchup sucks because Canada needs to play top competition?

By the way - yes.

By that I mean no disrespect to Team Latvia, who obviously took Canada right to the wall.

But it was obvious that Canada has far, far, far more skill than the Latvians.  So the Latvians did what any team that is overmatched should do - they committed hard to team defence and shot blocking, and hoped for a few lucky bounces in order to win.  They played that role very well.

But for Canada, playing Latvia in no way prepares them for playing USA on Friday.  Those will be two totally different games.

That was way too close.

Hot goalie + giant ice. It produces that kind of results.

I heard the commentators talk about the poor quality of the ice as well.

Given the number of Canadian shots on goal, I think the credit for the close result should go primarily to the Latvian keeper rather than the ice.

Yes, but the poor ice quality has an impact on the ability to make precise passes over distances and so the Canadians went to the strategy of just getting pucks on net and hoping for rebounds which really played to the Latvian strength of putting five guys around the net and commiting to a defensive shell.  It would be interesting to know what percentage of play was in the Lavian zone - I wouldnt be suprised if it was over 80%

There's one obvious advantage of basketball: you can't just camp out on defense.

Did anyone watch the US-Czech game?

How did Pavelec look in goal for the Czechs?  I understand he was pulled?

He let 4 goals go in on 12 shot in 30mins of ice time.

Well Yi says we suck. So maybe we should try the shell tactic and hope for a few lucky bounces too.   :P
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

There's a fine line between salvation and drinking poison in the jungle.

I'm embarrassed. I've been making the mistake of associating with you. It won't happen again. :)

For your sake, I hope that is true.
