Fun fact I learned during the Os-Nationals series: they both lead their respective leagues in team HRs, yet neither has a hitter over .300 for the season.  I find that both interesting and completely unnerving.

Cards are dead last in the NL in HRs and second to last in Runs scored.  Now that is unnerving.

Delmon Young of all people is over .300, though not enough AB to qualify.

Also Manny Machado's monthly splits (OPS):

May - .556
June - .774
July - .921
August (to date) - .958

Nice progression.

I really think he's in Buck's doghouse for some reason.  I don't understand why he doesn't see more action on a regular basis, all he does is produce.

Yeah, and with some of his diamond gems he's turned in with the glove recently, I think he's shaken off both his injury and ARod.

He's a butcher in the field, so how do you get him and Cruz in the lineup at the same time.

For a DH his power is so-so, he doesn't walk that much, so he really has to keep well above .300 to justify being in the lineup.  Plus he has a rep as a head case.

My guess is that Showalter is picking his spots carefully which is part of why he seems to be having an up year.  There is no left-right platoon differential though.

ARod.

It's part of the new competitive balance of the AL East; it's not fair for the Yankees to bear the full brunt of ARod's poison, so the front runner has to share some.

I thought this was interesting; every batter except in Houston and Toronto face east to some degree (and in those exceptions they're just barely west.)

By facing almost due south the batters in Comerica Park are facing Canada; bring your glove if you're visiting Windsor. :Canuck:
In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace—and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock

Baltimore is totally dominating the battles of the birds 4 wins and 1 loss with just one game to go

Yeah, I used to like the Cards, but I hear about them non-stop from my brother-in-law, so fuck 'em.

They all went to the game last night.  At least the girls are O's fans.

Imagine future archeologists trying to explain ballpark alignment. "The alignment of the batter was to the east, which likely had a religious significance. The homerun would be hit into the east, perhaps symbolizing the conquest of death. The strikeout occurred with the ball being caught in the west, and was the ritualized death of the batter.

There were outliers. Toronto was to the west, but Toronto was not a part of America and likely had its own religious traditions. Detroit was more to the south than most stadiums, but here we must understand that both the pitcher and the hitter were oriented to face Canada. In the destitute and cursed city of Detroit, perhaps the orientation was situated so that everyone would be facing a new land full of all the hope that was absent in their own."
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

There's a fine line between salvation and drinking poison in the jungle.

I'm embarrassed. I've been making the mistake of associating with you. It won't happen again. :)

Ugly series. Glad the Cards at least avoided a sweep.

Local Cincy breweries getting a mention :punk:

Now if they'd just consistently clean their tap lines at the ballpark we'd be set  <_<

Hot damn - Royals are going on a serious tear and are a half game back of Detroit for the AL Central.

It's a shame though that you can't even listen to MLB games on the internet for free. :(

McCutchen finally went to the DL and Manny Machado left tonight's game with what appears to be a serious injury to the knee he didn't blow out last year.
