Hot damn - Royals are going on a serious tear and are a half game back of Detroit for the AL Central.

It's a shame though that you can't even listen to MLB games on the internet for free. :(

With KC winning, and Detroit losing, the Royals are at the moment your leaders in the AL Central.

I know they won't make it, but I don't care.  The Royals are playing meaningful baseball for the first time in my adult life that I can remember.

Good news:  ligament sprain.
Bad news: looks like the 15 day DL.
More bad news:  J.J. Hardy has a left thumb sprain and hasn't played in almost a week.  That's the entire Golden Glove left side of the infield on the shelf.

Yeah, I used to like the Cards, but I hear about them non-stop from my brother-in-law, so fuck 'em.

They all went to the game last night.  At least the girls are O's fans.

Ugly series. Glad the Cards at least avoided a sweep.

That was a fucking disaster.  Not like they are doing much better in Miami.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

The Braves are on a 2-11 run. Is Dr. Kevorkian still around to euthanize a baseball team?
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

I'm embarrassed. I've been making the mistake of associating with you. It won't happen again. :)

Bullet: dodged.

Good news: last night's game was rained out.

Showalter will see them through.

Royals just keep on winning.  They're 15-3 in the month of August so far, and are now two games up on Detroit in the Central.

Too bad they have no remaining games against the Blue Jays, so it's unlikely I'll be able to watch any of their games. :(

The Orioles are A TEAM OF DESTINY!

They are DESTROYING the AL East.  THEY ARE THE 1927 YANKEES REBORN!

Ok maybe not.  But still look at how they are running away with this thing.

The Minsky Moment

It's more like the rest of the East is running away from this thing.

But the secret of the Orioles is that other than Schoop and the tough year from Davis, they have no real weaknesses anywhere, and O'Day/Britton delivers a devastating 1-2 punch from the bullpen.

They have a weakness.  It's starting pitching that can't get to the 5th inning.  But they're clicking now.

The Minsky Moment

Orioles are at 5.9 IP per start which is exactly the league average.

Was at the Cards game last night.  Had a lot of fun.  Cardinals won.  They came into 9th Inning tied and got one single, two walks and then with the bases loaded the pitcher hit the batter on the foot.

Raz tip:  If you are going to hit the batter with the pitch, try aiming for the knees.  Those take a while to heal.  Also it's harder to run around the bases with a broken knee.

The Angels pitcher (Garrett Richards) just...I don't know what really happened, but he was in some serious pain.  Like he broke his leg or completely trashed his knee or something.

E:  He was running to cover first for a double play and his spikes seem to have gotten caught or something.

That was pretty damned awesome.  We got home late Tuesday evening from our trip and it was the 9th inning by the time I got unpacked and had the kids in bed.  Cardinals could not buy a walk-off win last year or the year before, but they have them in spades this year.

God only knows where Hoover was aiming with that pitch.  He's been absolutely terrible this year.  One might even say he sucks.

NL Central playoff picture is has gotten less fuzzy.  Reds are done, and the Pirates have been pretty crappy since McCutchen went on the DL and will need to make up for lost time when he gets back.  I'm predicting the Brewers will finish the season with a 1-2 game lead over the Cards, who in turn will need to play that silly one-game wild card playoff.
