The Minsky Moment

Crazy to think that with all that great front-line talent, the Tigers are in a fight to make the playoffs.

According to espn.com the Orioles have a 99.8% chance of making the playoffs.  You O's fans relaxing yet?

They will make the playoffs valiantly, and they will be eliminated valiantly.
And afterwards men in tall hats and gold watch fobs will thump their chest and say what a brave playoff run it was.

But this is good ground and the boys are spoiling for a fight

First time ever I've done a non-Winnipeg Jets themed Languish sports avatar.  Let's see if it works...

Ron Washington resigned yesterday, btw.  He didn't get fired, and the team was NOT expecting it.

Apparently, there were other (not blow) reasons:

Quote"We just wish that he -— it's a speedy recovery and back on his feet soon," Pettis said.

"He tried to explain what happened and you know, it's horrible, I have to say," said Rangers outfielder Leonys Martin.

:(  Bye Wash.

I saw that yesterday and meant to post it but I was tired and lost interest.

I hope everything turns out OK for him.  I always liked him as a manager and if it wasn't my Cardinals ripping his heart out of his chest a couple of years ago I would have been very upset he didn't win that World Series.  I hope he can get past/over/better whatever is wrong and come back and take another run at it.

Fuck. You.

For almost all of the 1980s, I was inseparable from my Royals hat (well, one of many Royals hats).  My love of all things KC Royals is by no means a recent phenomenon.  My embrace of the Royals isn't because of joining a bandwagon - it's out of surprise that my childhood team, which I long ago had abandonded due to general ineptitude, is one again good now that I'm in my middle age.
Posts here are my own private opinions.  I do not speak for my employer.

So... you liked them when they were good in the early 80's, abandoned them as soon as they started playing poorly and have taken up liking them again now that they're good?  Maybe that doesn't make you a bandwagonner, but ti sure as heck makes you a fair weather fan at best.

That was a hell of a win by the birds today.

Heh, two CdM Trivia bits about smooth Mike:

--Only Oriole I ever had in my car, took him back to the ball park after an afternoon game where he was beaned and wound up in the ER. :smarty: Got myself on camera for the 11 o'clock news with that one.
--Personally knew both chicks that had a threesome with him. :smarty:  I was not present, but merely assisted with the pre-game introductions.

Cards have won 9 of their last 10 while the Brewers have lost 9 of their last 10.  If you're gonna pick a time to get hot, might as well choose September.

Taking Tommy to see Wacha pitch tonight here in Cincy.  Yadi is due for a burst of offensive production, so hopefully we'll catch that as well.
