Valmy

In the US skinny sometimes means not fat.  I think that's where Valmy is coming from.

I was actually just making a joke about how Quebecois always think they have the hottest women in NA. So Margot Robbie just looks like a normal woman to them.

That sure went in a weird anti-American/Valmy is insane direction for some weird reason after that.

Fear Street Part 2: 1978. Kids at camp face masked killer stock ingredients. Totally OK in the genre. Posters of a certain age will enjoy the songdropping.
There's no lesbian sex.
Well, finished DS9. I enjoyed it much more than I expected. A great mix of classic Trek themes/stories and more modern non-episodic fare (although the plotting of the season-long arcs is a bit wonky at times, particularly the tedious prophets/pah wraiths stuff). Best part are the characters though, it's one of those few shows that once it ends I find myself wishing I could spend more time with the people in it.

It has put me in the mood of doing a rewatch of TNG, but I think I'll reserve that for later. I have several shows I have to catch up with.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts as you watched the show.

Cel, you have me wanting to re-watch the series.   :)

So how did you like the final arc of
Dukat banging Kai Wynn
. :P

ALso, did you watch Badda-Bin, Badda-Bang? :D

That's what I meant by "tedious" :P.
It feels like they didn't know what to do with Dukat and Winn, they also had to do something with the whole prophets stuff, and came up with that rather terrible subplot
Gotta say
Dukat-as-religious-zealot almost ruined the character for me?  I think he should have died in the episode where him and Sisko end up stranded on a planet. That was the highlight of the character - loved how he's always fixated on defending his role in the occupation, shifting blame constantly for his crimes. Great stuff.
Badda-bing badda-bang was indeed very nice.

Yeah, the last run of episodes was kind of ... weird,
and the Pah Wraith/Prophets stuff never resonated with me, so it was .... ugh. And Kai Winn (or "Space Karen" as I heard her be called) and Dukat together feels awkward on so many levels. I get they're going with a Satan corrupting the overzealous false believer
, but .... yeah .... :D

Oddly, I also watched this topical video this weekend.

QuoteOn January 11, 1993, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine introduced the first gay power couple of the 24th century ... Garak and Bashir. One's a dashing young doctor. The other's a simple tailor who might also be a spy. From the very moment they met, their chemistry was delicious. And fans wondered: would these star-crossed lovers find their way into each other's arms on screen? With Garak and Bashir, Star Trek had a golden opportunity to be the first major franchise on TV to star a same-sex couple... so what went wrong?

Andrew Robinson confirmed that he was playing Garak as being romantically interested Bashir in his first appearances (though later scripts made this harder).

Julian and Miles' bromance had certainly its share of awkward moments, too :D

I also felt that
Ezri and Julian's romance was rushed.
I've heard of this Garak/Bashir thing before.
I've heard similar of Chandler in Friends.
Seems to be a ruining theme from the era. Writers in the 21st century, producers still very much in the 50s.

Oh yeah, absolutely on
the rushed romance
.

But yes, Julian and Miles were a great bromance (esp. considering how their first joint outing went when they were stranded on that desert planet). :)

There's a fan story where Bashir and Garak became a couple over the years. The actors performed it during a zoom call during quarantine. :D

Andrew Robinson was really into his role as Garak. He created a background story and bible for his character that he was later permitted to use as basis for an official Star Trek novel ("A Stitch in Time").

Garak is great. His character at times feels straight out of a Le Carré novel, down to him being a tailor.  :D

Yeah, the Garak character was the most interesting to me.

And of course, he's not even Garak.
