Yeah, that's why I will probably check the graphic novel out, it probably works better in that context.

EDIT: Also, I would NEVER dump a girlfriend called "Knives". It's too awesome a name.

Knives was 100% superior to Ramona.

That's no joke.  That's one of my huge problems with the flick.  Arguably, Knives isn't quite as hot as Mary Elizabeth Winstead, but we're talking about tenths of a percentage point here.  But Ramona's emptiness is simply so much less appealing.

Aye, one of my biggest issues of the film is that they have no chemistry. I could have bought all the flashy stuff if I really wanted those two to be together. Knives is far more engaging.

The Secret of Roan Inish. 90s Irish fantasy movie about a girl that lost her brother to a race of seal people. It ends up being a bit flat, but has some nice eerie scenes and casual anti-English racism.

Oh, yeah, meant to say I watched Roan Inish like twenty years ago.  I remember it being sweet, but I barely remember it at all.

It's pretty sweet to be frank, the issue is that the film is really slow and most dramatic and exciting stuff happens in flashbacks, which involve characters that don't appear in the "main" story. So it all feels like people talking about times where life was more mysterious and interesting, and the English weren't there to fuck up things. Which is sorta the point of the film, but it makes the actual plot a bit bland and boring. But it's well directed, Sayles creates a feeling of the uncanny with very few elements and a budget that probably amounted to a couple bags of crisps.

I wonder why Sayles disappeared from the face of Earth after the 90s. Lone Star and Passion Fish were great.

Apparently he's still producing films, but I guess they don't catch peoples eyes as much. Most recently:

Amigo (2010) - set during the Philippine–American War - and Go for Sisters (2013).
