Looks like Tusk is putting forward the option of a 12 month extension that can be revoked if Parliament is able to pass something before its expiration.

Why?  12 months or 12 years they'll still be in deadlock.  They don't even know what they want.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

yes. :(

With the currend deadline a week away, both Houses of Parliament giving it a rest (no rush), and May has written to the EU requesting a deadline to... 30th of June with the option to wrap earlier (she's in a funny mood I guess).

Also the wrap-up earlier clause would mean, in her proposal, that while preparations are being made to hold EU elections, they would be cancelled at the last second if possible. :bleeding:

Seriously WTF. We have past the original deadline by a week and uncertainty is increasing not decreasing. What a shitshow.

And what exactly is on the table that could not be wrapped up next week but for sure would be done by the end of June?

It could become a ritual thing. By the 2050s every march the Parliament will make a series of symbolic "no" votes in the presence of a copy of Article 50 embellished in golden leaf and carried to Parliament by a specially appointed Brexit-Bearer. Then, the Brexit Bearer will be shuttled to Buckinham were he will be received by the Queen and an envoy of the EU Commission. The envoy will ask about every possible Brexit outcome, and the Brexit-Bearer will answer "NAY!" to each. Then, a petition for another 12-month extension will be made, and both the Queen and the Commissioner will give Assent. 12 salvos will be fired, and Beefeaters ritually dressed in red (leavers) and blue (remainers) will fight in the courtyard until the very last man, to a stalemate, while the Speaker screams ORDAAAAAAAAAAAA throughout.

Tourists will love it.

600 pages of discussion here and we know as much abou the exact form of Brexit as we did when the thread was opened!

Meanwhile, Rees-Mogg suggested on Twitter to throw an EU-level hissy fit if we are kept in (as opposed to being kicked out next week):

Quote from: Deluded aristocratIf a long extension leaves us stuck in the EU we should be as difficult as possible. We could veto any increase in the budget, obstruct the putative EU army and block Mr Macron's integrationist schemes.

Nicola Sturgeon, the SNP leader, had a reply:

QuoteHow strange - isn't this the same guy who said the UK had no power to do any of these things in the EU and that's why we had to leave.

Also a comment under her Tweet made a good point: compare those rights the UK has in the EU listed by Mogg, to the rights Scotland has in the UK.

It's not just that, it's the good friday accord(s) & the backstop. It makes everything impossible.

I still think that Brexit will not happen.

It's been pretty clear for a while that any Brexit was going to be a no-deal Brexit, at least based on reports here.

Newport West by-election: Labour hold onto seat

5 April 2019

Labour have held onto the Newport West parliamentary seat with a reduced majority following a by-election.

Union official Ruth Jones won the south Wales seat, which fell vacant with the death of veteran Labour MP Paul Flynn in February.

Labour saw their majority over the Conservatives fall to 1,951 from 5,658 at the 2017 general election. Mr Flynn had held the seat since 1987.

Eleven candidates stood, with the 37% turnout higher than some had predicted.

Newport West by-election result:
Candidate   Party   Number of votes
Ruth Jones   Labour   9,308
Matthew Evans   Conservative   7,357
Neil Hamilton   UKIP   2,023
Jonathan Clark   Plaid Cymru   1,185
Ryan Jones   Lib Dem   1,088
Amelia Womack   Green   924
June Davies   Renew   879
Richard Suchorzewski   Abolish The Welsh Assembly   205
Ian McLean   Social Democrat   202
Phillip Taylor   Democrats and Veterans   185
Hugh Nicklin   For Britain   159

Majority: 1,951; Turnout 37.1%, Votes: 23,615

Source: BBC Wales

Labour held on with a reduced majority, something to be expected following on from a much liked MP.

And the Tories held off the hard right, with UKIP making little ground.

So quite reassuring that this constituency of electors are behaving predictably and more level headedly than many MPs currently in the House of Commons.

Interesting point in this one. Need to fact  check when I get home but just read from a reputable site....
He was not just labour. He was an overly pro remain people's vote campaigner.
