Being skeptical of a twitter summary (as one should be), actually checked out the sources, and here the likely origin of the summary:



A lot more ties/virtual ties left absent (for example, picking Ukraine over Australia for the UK) from the above simplistic summary, especially since it is a not a zero-sum survey.

And looking at the detailed chart...I think Japan's results are the most interesting there.  I'd think SK would have a low-level negative view of Japan, but not the reverse.  And the Taiwan-love is rather stronger than I'd have expected. (and that the China pollers were not given a Taiwan option  )

From the chart, I don't think Japan is being polled as a threat to anyone.  I see the "blues" as just varying levels of "meh".

Yeah - only the greys are net threat.

Which makes you raise eyebrows about Japan-South Korea. I know their relations are always awful - Abe's book is apparently really bad on South Korea, just showing very little respect.

True.  But at least neither of them appear to harbor any lingering desires for control over each other or each other's territory.  Just mostly lingering historical resentment (I hope).
