how shitty is to travel to/from London via Ryanair?

Obnoxious from my memory. Had to fly in/out of Luton which was a fun wacky bus ride away.

No worse than a normal Ryanair flight I don't think.  In some ways better because the airports may be far out from London but at least, unlike many of their Euro-routes, they're real airports not a shed 300 km from the city with a connecting minibus

300 km? Exagerating, much?
On the other hand, since the airports are so far away from London,  2 hours by bus or so to get to the lowcost airport doesn't seem that much compared to them.
Beauvais, technically Île-de-France before the Revolution is 1H15 away and Frankfurt-Hahn (not even in Hessen) is 1h45 hours away from Frankfurt.
