The French intellectual tradition is worthless.

We made you.  :)

It would explain why Sweden fails.

Meh, even if Frodo had failed and Sauron had won....what does he win anyway?  He cannot really win unless unless he goes after Aman, and if he does, he'd just get wrecked like the Numenoreans.
Sauron seemed to be content to rule Middle Earth.  He had never made any attempt to move against Valinor during his long reign before.
I do not hate you, nor do I love you, but you are made out of atoms which I can use for something else.

He is an evil demigod in a fantasy world...he cannot ignore the schtick of trying to topple the biggest goodies around, and losing.

That is, if the underdog-goodies-always-wins-in-the-end schtick hadn't gotten him first.  :P

But he did do exactly that.

Perhaps, but Sauron himself is unstoppable.

I always wondered exactly what he could do.  He sort of lacked a body.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

So does the Holy Spirit.  The power of Christ compels you;  why not Sauron?

Christ and the Holy Spirit are two different characters...that's like confusing Gandalf and Radagast.

Ugh, I try to serve up an obtuse Exorcist reference, and the fucking College of Cardinals calls me on a trinitarian/christological double fault.

You need 10k bombers to wipe out a medieval society?
I think you'd just 10 B-52s.
The power of The Ring can't be undone by airpower.

Besides, the B-52 proved ineffective against the Vietnamese.  Why would it be any more effective against the forces of Sauron the Great?
His forces would be out in the open and Mordor tactics rely on mass groupings of infantry; quantity over quality.
Perhaps, but Sauron himself is unstoppable.
If he doesn't have armies to enforce his will, what can he do?
It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

The real question is: Why didn't they just have the eagles fly the One Ring to Mount Doom and chuck it in?

Besides, if the good guys get B-17s...at the very least, you'd have the Witch King driving a Panzer IV.

I've never seen the original Exorcist, and Ed Anger, your regular reference-catcher, was not immediately available.  :(
