Time to deploy my Physics 'O' level, grade B, against this heatwave? 

Someone might have to check my workings, so it takes 375ml of boiling water to make a large mug or small pot of tea, let it cool down to 50C before drinking, then that will impart an extra 4C to the estimated 15 cubic metres of air in my small kitchen?

That cannot be right, I think I'm out by an order of magnitude or two, but if so, then my solution is to put it out onto the garden table to let it cool down out there?

My workings:
Water: 375g density 998kg m3, latent heat capacity 4.19 Kjoules, cooling from 100C to 50C
Air: 15 m3 est.volume , density 1.293kg m3, latent heat capacity 0.993 Kjoules.


NB I've not yet factored in the opening and closing the backdoor will allow X cubic metres of 5C warmer air to enter the kitchen

I checked, the Air Quality Health Index goes from 1 to 10. Broken up into 3 point blocks for low, moderate, and high risk. then there's a rating called 10+ After which they don't even really bother given categories. You're just screwed lol.

It seems to work, I guess to do the windows properly you'd need a longer, wider paint roller, but beats having to buy roller outdoor blinds, which I think I'd need to have planning permission for?

The wildfires burning to the east of Vancouver, have closed the highways which lead to the interior of the province. There are still a northern route available from Vancouver into the interior, but that route is also threatened by a wildfire burning nearby.

Here it the sentiment is it's a tinderbox, just waiting for the sparks to fly; FFS when are we going to get any rain.

It's a bit weird because we haven't gotten any smoke blown into the lower mainland. Normally, when this sort of thing happens, we are blanketed and smoke.  So for most residence of Vancouver, I'm not entirely sure how much they are aware that basically every road out of here to the east is now blocked.
